Montreal Canadiens and former Montreal Expos mascot ‘Youppi!’ has always been a pioneer. He was the first mascot to ever change from one major professional sports team to another. In fact, he switched sports entirely. In mascot terms, that’s some impressive versatility.

On Sunday, Youppi! will be enshrined in the Mascot Hall of Fame for bringing smiles to Montreal sports fan faces for over 40 years. In celebration of the bearded cheerleader, we take a look back at our favourite Youppi! moment – when he somehow got himself ejected from an Expos game.

With Montreal playing against the Los Angeles Dodgers, Youppi! found himself in the cross hairs of Dodgers manager Tony Lasorda after making too much noise atop the dugout. Instead of telling him to get down, homeplate umpire Bob Davidson simply threw him out.

And ohhhhhh did Davidson get BOOED.

This event alone is Hall of Fame worthy. It would have been even more incredible if Youppi! had hopped down onto the field and threw a classic fit, as players/managers do upon ejection from time to time.

What a world.
