In the hierarchy of Chicago sports teams, the White Sox arguably sit at the bottom of the bunch behind (in no particular order) the Cubs, Blackhawks, Bears and Bulls.
After placing second last (4th) in the American League Central with a 67-94 record, Chitown’s South Side squad is mirrored in a rebuild after trading Adam Eaton and Chris Sale for a pile of prospects last offseason. It doesn’t help their case whatsoever that the Cubs are subsequently one of the best teams in baseball and grab majority of the media attention in America’s third largest city by population.
On Tuesday night’s episode of Wheel of Fortune, contestants were posed questions about “Great American Cities,’ ad a crossword appeared that included four of the top sports teams in Chicago.
Unfortunately for the Chi Sox and their fans, their team did not make the cut.
The White Sox picked up on the snub, and fired up the ‘ol Photoshop to fix the crossword and tweeted at Wheel of Fortune’s Twitter account with their own modified addition.
According to a Wheel of Fortune spokeswoman, the reasoning behind the omission was that the puzzle makers only could use single-word, interlocking answers, as per the Chicago Tribune.
This wasn’t the only screw-up up during the show. A contestant named Brad decided to throw the word “and” following the word Bulls in his answers, a silly technicality that cost him a $1,000 gift card, and the possibility of winning a car and an additional $2,750.
Poor Brad. That’s pretty weak on their part, even though Pat Sajak clearly said “don’t add anything” when solving the puzzle.
Any who, good on the White Sox social media team for making light of a situation that’s obviously plagued the White Sox overall success in Chitown where they’ve essentially become Chicago’s other baseball team. Despite the snub, their future only looks promising if they continue to build around Yoan Moncada.
