Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s highly anticipated Blue Jays debut finally happened on Friday, and his first major league hit couldn’t have come at a better time. Tied with the Oakland A’s at the bottom of the ninth, Vladdy Jr. came up with a lead-off debut that extended the inning long enough for Brandon Drury to come in, two outs later, and walk things off with a home run.

Vladimir Guerrero Sr., who was in attendance for the game, is a proud papa.

If Vladdy Jr.’s career continues as expected, then Vladdy Sr. will have plenty more to be proud about. Jays fans are standing up for each of Guerrero’s at-bats so far, perhaps waiting on that first major league home run.

And, just like out there in the stands, the Jays are stoked to welcome Vladdy Jr. to the clubhouse. Beer showers and all.
