In one of the best games of the Stanley Cup Playoffs thus far, Tom Wilson has once again stolen headlines with a hit that has hockey fans up in arms.
One particular angle of a Tom Wilson hit has brought out a lot of opinions because it appears as if he totally blindsides Jonathan Marchessault (Angle #1). When you look at the other angles, it doesn’t look quite as bad, but is definitely a little bit late (Angle #2). Several players and coaches have already reacted to the hit, but Wilson actually gave a little piece of exclusive information about Marchessault’s real-time reaction to the hit.
That’s the most classic hockey reaction to a big hit, but Marchessault’s tune changed a bit after the game.
We can never be sure of what is said on the ice unless the team reveals a mic’d up scenario, but it really doesn’t matter what was said on the ice vs. after the game. That’s because if the hit is a serious one, the player being hit is hardly in a position to make a judgement on the hit.
In the end, the league agreed with Marchessault's initial judgement.
