Tim Tebow is officially a sophomore, but he’s still prone to rookie mistakes, at least in the outfield.
The Eastern League All-Star (yes, Tim Tebow is an all-star) in Double-AA for the Binghamton Rumble Ponies is known more for his ability to put the bat on the ball, and not necessarily his glove.
During Monday night’s game against the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox), prospect Josh Ockimery went the other way with a deep shot to left field that bounced off the wall. Known as the “Maine Monster” – the minor league version of the Green Monster, Tebow quickly found himself in heap of trouble.
The Mets “prospect” didn’t quite track the ball the way he maybe should’ve, as the ball bounced off the hall and hit him right in the forehead. The ball then rolled right into foul territory, resulting in Ockimery getting an RBI triple.
Ouch, you’ll be seeing that one in the blooper reel, especially since it’s Tebow. It's not quite Jose Canseco level, but it's pretty close. The Ockimery was one base from an inside-the-park home-run.
He would later make up for with his bat, finishing 3-for-4 with two RBIs. He also stole his first base of the year.
Hitting .266 on the season, the former NFL quarterback has five home-runs and 32 RBIs in 222 at-bats over 71 games.
If Tebow keeps up these respectable numbers, don’t be surprised if the New York Mets call him up to the big leagues.
The 30-year-old joins a group of players including Blue Jays prospects Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette that will headline the minor league all-star game on July 11th in Trenton, New Jersey.
