The 2017-18 NHL season marks the 100th anniversary of the league’s inaugural season and quite a bit has changed over the years.
From what originally started as just four teams in 1917, the NHL will expand to 31 teams next season, which will be the most amount of teams the league has ever had at one time.
Over the years, the league has seen plenty of franchises come and go, as there have been 19 franchises that relocated or folded since the inaugural season in 1917-18.
In this video created by the NHL, they show how the league has grown and changed over 100 years and where the teams have left and popped up.
It’s pretty awesome to see how much the game of hockey has grown throughout North America over the years.
