With the Pittsburgh Steelers’ season opener against the Cleveland Browns just around the corner, the status of star running back Le’Veon Bell remains uncertain. Since Bell and the Steelers haven’t been able to come to terms on a long-term contract, he looks like a probable holdout.
Now that regular season wins are at risk, Bell’s teammates are begining to speak up — and his offensive line is especially displeased.
Whew. Those are some spicy takes, and Ramon Foster really didn’t hold back on summing Bell’s success as the contributions of the O-line.
Of course, it’s a fair sentiment to express when team success is on the line, but some have also noted that Bell is well within his right to hold out for his worth, especially after years of one-year franchise tag contracts. Considering the financial insecurity that comes with risking injury in advance of a payday, some have criticized the Steelers O-line for turning on their fellow player, too.
Well, at least the Steelers are only playing the Browns in Week 1, right? (In tense times such as these, it’s important to hold on to cherished things such as jokes aobut the Browns.)
As the football season gears up, fantasy owners are also beginning to lose it over Bell’s holdout. (Pro-tip: James Conner, the Steelers’ back-up running back, may still be available in your league!)
