In the last seven years, the competition for the best position player in baseball hasn’t really been close as Mike Trout has dominated ever since he entered the league full-time. Now he has been rewarded.
Trout has accumulated 64.2 WAR in that time and the next closest position player is Buster Posey with 45.4. So, yea, he deserves a lot of money. Not long after Bryce Harper signed the largest contract in North American sports history, Trout 100 upped him. According to Jeff Passan, Trout and the Angels reached an agreement on a 12-year, $430 million contract. Yes, that does say $100 million more than Harper for one less year.
People were obviously pretty blown away after a contract that no one expected shattered plenty of North American records.
