The Washington Redskins and the New York Jets held a joint practice on Sunday, which, hey, sounds like a great way to pit players against some fresh faces and pluck some ideas from seeing how the other team functions.
It was hard for either team to glean these benefits while they were brawling with each other instead. Seemingly prompted by a late tackle on Redskins lineman Morgan Moses, things spilled over into the stands pretty quickly.
Moses was reportedly injured by the initial hit, and limped off the field. There hasn’t been any update yet on the severity of the injury.
Believe it or not, this isn’t even the first time that a joint practice hosted by the Redskins ended in a brawl. Just three years ago, the Redskins invited the Houston Texans for a similar event, and things got testy in that one too as there were not one, not two but three brawls.
You can complain about athletes getting too buddy-buddy with their fellow competitors in the modern era if you like, but as this shows, even team-organized efforts to be buddy-buddy don’t always pan out that way.
