One imagines that most of Los Angeles is rejoicing after signing LeBron James away from his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers, and, you know, most Lakers fans are probably genuinely excited about it. It isn’t every day that you sign a potential GOAT.

Still, there’s some culture shock for a fanbase that, years ago, died on the other side of the ‘LeBron vs. Kobe’ hill. In retrospect, it’s a little strange that the choice between two all-time greats was presented as an either-or (the Lakers got both!), but as we all know, Lakers fans can be intense like that.

We’ll say, though, that Kobe diehards have really outdone themselves by defacing a mural of LeBron in a Lakers jersey two days after it went up.

Yeah, we prefer the unsullied original.

This isn’t the first time that a mural was defaced for the sake of the LeBron versus Kobe argument, either. In a much less permanent makeover, somebody taped a cutout of LeBron’s face over a Kobe Bryant mural, and this prompted a passerby to throw his shoe at it until it came down.

It’s funny, because even at the end of the day, regardless of any infighting among Lakers fans, the team that once employed Kobe Bryant, among so many other legends, still has LeBron James today. They’re in a great place right now.

And this is how a segment of the fanbase is spending its summer? Nah, that’s not for us.
