Vancouver Canucks fans received good news about Brock Boeser this morning, but it put an end to a Calder race that has been exciting to follow all season.
Mat Barzal has taken a pretty substantial lead in the rookie points race, but Boeser’s goal-scoring prowess has kept him in it and could have catapulted him into the lead at any moment. Unfortunately for the young American, he isn’t likely to play another game this season for the Canucks.
It was a scary moment for everyone involved, but on the bright side, Vancouver said he will make a full recovery after awkwardly slamming into an open bench door.
While the Canucks haven’t officially stated that he has been shut down, even if Boeser came back for the end of the season, there would only be three games remaining in the season. We can’t imagine the team bringing him back that early for games that are likely meaningless.
For Canucks fans, it might even help them out a little bit in the future.
Boeser out of the lineup should only help them move into a better position for the NHL draft lottery and with their Prince Charming making a full recovery before the offseason, they should be able to fully focus on next season.
Plus, Calder trophy or not, Boeser is still getting a nice reward for his stellar rookie year.
