The hockey world couldn't believe McDavid missed an empty netter from so close against the Sabres

Connor McDavid is one of the best players in the NHL because of his combination of skill and speed that allows him to score highlight reel goals and make incredible plays for his teammates.

Monday night against the Sabres, all of McDavid's incredible ability was on display, but the Oilers captain did something very out of character that shocked the hockey world. What was that thing, you ask? He missed an empty net goal.

There aren't many goals McDavid's scored in his career easier than that goal would have been and it was pretty crazy to watch him miss the empty net from that close.

A Sabres player just blocked his own shot on a wide open net. A few minutes later, Connor McDavid misses an empty net. We have reached peak Sabres/Oilers in this one.

The best explanation for McDavid missing the empty net is he's human and happens to everyone. Luckily for him, the Oilers were able to hold on for the 4-3 win for their 3rd-straight victory.
