The Vegas Golden Knights squared off against the Dallas Stars last night in what was the franchise’s first regular season contest. The game took play in Dallas' American Airlines Center, as fans from the visiting team were scattered throughout the building.

Despite boasting an inferior roster, The Golden Knights pulled through with the victory thanks to two James Neal goals, one of which was scored while he was falling to the ice.

The team’s Twitter account, which has gained recognition for its clever and witty posts, were inevitably active during the game and had the tweet of the night that took hockey fans on a trip down memory lane. As a Vegas goal was under review, they reminded fans about Brett Hull’s controversial Game 6 winner from the 1999 Stanley Cup Final, when his goal was ultimately given the green light after his body was clearly positioned in the crease.

In case you forgot, the NHL had established a rule that a player’s body could not be in the blue paint. here’s a picture of the goal to refresh your memory.

The Knights’ goal was  overturned and they headed into the third period down 1-0, but it ultimately didn’t mean much.

The Stars showed tremendous class prior to puck-drop, as they stood with the Knights in honour of the Las Vegas shooting victims. But once the game started, the team’s Twitter account returned to their usual antics.

All-in-all, it was a tremendous evening for the Golden Knights.
