The Dallas Stars are on a mini two-game winning streak, and will look to continue their winning fortunes on Thursday night when they roll into the United Center in Chicago.
The Stars beat the Flames 6-4 on Friday night to kick start the mini streak, and honoured former right winger Jere Lehtinen by retiring his No. 26 to the rafters.
As a tribute to the Fin, the Stars rocked yellow laces on their skates during their game against the Flames, and since they were victorious, the team decided to keep the laces on when they shutout the Vegas Golden Knights 3-0 on Tuesday night at T-Mobile Arena.
Stars fans have noted the good luck charm, and want the team to keep on rocking them for the rest of the season.
The yellow laces, often waxed, are more durable than the regular white kind, and can give a more secure feel to them at the top of tongue of the skate where the knot is tied. One draw back is that they’re pretty hard to work with in a cold atmosphere. Given that the Stars play in Dallas, they won’t be freezing their hands off trying to lace their skates through the lace holes on an outdoor rink anytime soon, one thing Canadians know all too well.
Lehtinen, a three-time Selke winner, enjoyed 14 seasons down in Big D, and was a key compenent on the Stars’ 1999 Stanley Cup winning team. Noted for his defensive notoriety, the 44-year-old Fin is the Stars all-time leader in plus-minus at 176, and is tied with Brenden Morrow for the second highest amount of goals in club history with 243.
