One of the most highly anticipated debuts in baseball lived up to the hype, when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. led off with a double in the bottom of the 9th inning to help the Blue Jays win against the A’s. Not bad for your first career hit, right?
It was ultimately Brandon Drury’s walk-off home run that won the game for the Jays — perhaps not quite as poetic as if Vladdy Jr. had walked it off, but still something that required his hit for Drury to get a chance to step up to the plate, three batters later.
After the game, the Jays gave Vladdy Jr. a proper big league inauguration in the locker room. Yes, that’s a carton of almond milk that you see there, too.
You think Jays fans are excited about this guy or what? Considered the best prospect in baseball entering the season, Vladdy Jr. had the crowd on their feet for each of his four at-bats in his debut, and he couldn’t have picked a better time to deliver his first hit.
Now, the next thing that Jays fans are waiting on is for Guerrero to smash a dinger to the stars, as he has a tendency to do.
