At the age of 36, Scott Foster finally got to live out one of his life long dreams while simultaneously providing Hockey Twitter with one of the best stories of the year.
Thursday, the Blackhawks announced that they had signed Foster to an ATO so that he could serve as an emergency backup goalie. Although the signing of an emergency backup is not uncommon, the majority of the time they never see the ice. Not only did Foster take to the ice for the Blackhawks...he performed masterfully, stopping all seven shots he faced.
But as well as Foster performed on the ice, it was his interview skills off the ice that had everyone talking after his performance, showcasing a level of wit that was as quick as his pad saves.
From beer league goalie to Vezina trophy candidate overnight. What a fantastically crazy scenario. As for Joel Quenneville laughing...we bet he won't be chuckling when he see Foster coming through the tunnel next time, because now he'll know the emergency backup goalie/accountant has got the goods.
