The Ottawa Senators shutout the Montreal Canadiens 3-0 in the NHL 100 Classic outdoors in at Landsdowne Park in the first outdoor game of the season on Saturday night.
With all the turmoil surrounding the team after owner Eugene Melnyk threatened to relocate the club out of Ottawa, the Sens were able to put the team’s off ice issues aside and win just their third game in their last 15 outings.
It was one of the colder outdoor games, coming in -10.8 degrees Celsius at game time. According to the NHL Public Relations department, it was the second coldest Winter Classic ever.
Erik Karlsson was a machine, playing just under 33 minutes, which went down as the most minutes played in the history of outdoor games. Goaltender Craig Anderson turned aside 28 shots for the goose egg. The special night in the nation’s capital was highlighted by the celebration of the NHL reaching the centennial mark.
The league went with a vintage 1917 look across their social media platforms with a consistent black and white colour sheme. Lineups and scoresheets were written out by hand.
Here’s some of the best pictures from both Lansdowne Park, Parliament Hill and in and around the city of Ottawa that also featured a special Senators alumni game.
