Canada and Russia have had the most success at the World Juniors over the past 40 years, but coming in at third place is Sweden. While they’ve only won two gold medals at the tournament, the Swedes have been one of the most dominant throughout the preliminary rounds and always manage to find a way to compete until the final day of the tournament.
However, this year it’s a different story as Sweden finds themselves exiting the tournament early after they were upset by Switzerland in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
Anyone outside of Switzerland probably didn’t have much faith in the team going up against Sweden of all teams in the quarterfinals, but it’s just another daily reminder of why it’s important to play every game and not just predict outcomes on paper.
