It just wasn’t meant to be for Germany at the 2018 World Cup.
The Germans entered the day with a real shot of advancing to the Knockout Stage. A win coupled with either a Sweden loss Or big Mexico loss would have kept their hopes alive, but as fate had it, everything went wrong. Germany failed to pick up a crucial win while the Swedes cruised their way to a 3-0 victory.
As expected, fans had all sorts of reactions to Germany failing to make the Knockout Stage for the first time since 1938.
While Germans pouted over the loss, a group of Swedish NHL players couldn’t hold in their excitement.
Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic also got in on the action.
And of course, there were the Mexican fans that were just happy to see their team survive the day.
It’s going to be a long, long four years for Germany until they get their next opportunity to redeem themselves in Qatar.
