The story of Scott Foster began 36 years ago, but the legend of Scott Foster has exploded onto the scene. If you haven’t heard yet, you’re probably just returning from some rural location where there was no service or internet. Hope you had fun, but we have something even more fun to tell you!
Scott Foster ended up as the Chicago Blackhawks emergency backup goalie following a soccer-related injury to starter Anton Forsberg. Next thing you know, Collin Delia (who was making his NHL debut) went down with an injury. In the words of Foster, a 36-year-old accountant, “I don’t think I heard anything, other than put your helmet on.”
Foster came into the game with a little over 14 minutes left to play. The emergency goalie managed to stop Laine, Byfuglien, Statsny, as well as four more shots on his way to a perfect 7-for-7 night. The legend of Scott Foster was born.
Meanwhile, Foster’s beer league teammates appeared to have a game that night, but they took a pause to watch their backstop take the NHL ice. The team, dressed in full equipment, gathered around a small television at Johnny’s Ice House.
Welcome to the Scott Foster show. Foster’s teammates had a lot to cheer for after the game, everything from his performance to his post-game interview, to the loving reaction across the world went just according to plan.
Scott Foster will be signing autographs back at Johnny’s Ice House during his next game, unless he gets called up for good of course.
