Alex Ovechkin made history by winning the Stanley Cup as he became the first Russian captain to ever win the Cup.
Given Ovechkin's relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, people have been speculating about whether he'll bring the Cup to his home country and see Putin with it.
While there's been no news yet in regards to that actually happening, Putin did congratulate Ovi and the Caps on the incredible accomplishment.
Ovi, Evgeny Kuznetsov, and Dmitry Orlov are the three players from Russia that were part of Washington's Stanley Cup-winning team and it would make sense for all three of them to visit Putin with the Cup.
As Putin eluded to in his answer, he and Ovi are good friends and we haven't seen anything to suggest the opposite.
Based on our research, if Ovechkin does in fact bring the Cup to Putin, it would be the first time the trophy has been brought to the President by an NHL player.
