Russell Wilson could have a role as an offensive coordinator come the day he retires as a professional quarterback.
The Seahawks star quarterback didn't take any snaps in the team's final pre-season game on Thursday night, which was no surprise whatsoever considering starters never play in the pre-season finale.
What was surprising to see though was Wilson on the sidelines calling plays, serving as the team's offensive coordinator.
With Geno Smith and Paxton Lynch taking snaps, Wilson stood with a headset on holding a clipboard and was calling plays out to the two quarterbacks, as they battle for Wilson's backup position.
How cool is that?
Wilson was able to a produce a four-play, 52-yard scoring drive capped off by Smith finding Jacob Hollister for an 11-yard touchdown.
Smith had tons of praise for Wilson's playcalling.
“Russ is a great play-caller actually,” Smith commented after the game, according to Seahawks Wire. “I was impressed. He dialed up what we talked about earlier. He said he was going to dial up a few things and he was right on cue. We went out there and we executed, so we made him look good tonight, he did a great job. It was great to see him do that, that was pretty cool.”
On Friday, the Seahawks made Smith the official backup after releasing Lynch.
Brian Schottenheimer is the current OC of the team. Don't be surprised if we one day see Wilson on the sidelines in a full-time position once it's all said and done,
