Around the NFL, teams and players are loving the NFL’s relaxed celebration rules.
On Sunday, we once again saw some fantastic redzone celebrations, including Adam “Pacman” Jones giving birth to a football, and the Philadelphia Eagles bowling during their 31-3 stomp down over the Chicago Bears.
In New England, head coach Bill Belichick runs a pretty tight ship, and his Patriots players know better than to egregiously celebrate after a touchdown. That couldn’t come much as a shock to football fans, as Belichick means all business when him and the Pats are out on the field.
During the Patriots 35-17 win over the Dolphins on Sunday, Rob Gronkowski exploded for two touchdowns on five receptions on 82 yards. Gronk usually reserves his signature “Gronk smash” celebration as his act of commemoration, but couldn’t help but have a little fun with receiver Brandin Cooks.
During the post-game presser, Gronk was asked by the media about Cooks jumping on his back and riding him as if he were a horse, and you could tell that the 28-year-old was hesitant to do any over the top celebrating because of the potential ramifications from coach Belichick.
Never change, Gronk, never change.
According to Cooks, the celebration was not planned, and Gronk confirmed that by mentioning that it was spontaneous.
