It’s still tough to believe that Kurt Cobain is no longer with us but more than 25 years later, here we are.

Today would have marked Cobain’s 53rd birthday. Over the years, fans have found creative ways to honour the late rock star including tattoos, graffiti, and even… hockey helmets. Let’s take a moment to look back the mask worn by Finnish goaltender Niko Hovinen in the SM-Liiga. Brace yourself for some of the best helmet art you’ll likely ever see.

That right there ladies and gentlemen, is a thing of beauty.

I found this on our computer today. I miss this guy. He was so nice and he gave me his stick.

According to Indie88, the mask also paid tribute to Slash on the other side. Stick that helmet in both the Rock and Roll AND Hockey Hall of Fame!

Now let’s shift things over to Winnipeg, where Trav4Oilers breaks down another beauty at Long and McQuade. The explanation begins at roughly 1:15 and we can assure you the detail on this one is nothing short of amazing.

Today and every day, music fans remember one of the most interesting artists in history. We hope the mask artwork keeps on coming in the future.
