It’s fairly well-known across the NFL that Philadelphia Eagles fans have some of the most rambunctious fans in the league. Despite their disappointing finishes in recent years, the passion still burns strong in Eagles Nation. In 2018, however, the Philly franchise rode the hot-hand of quarterback Carson Wentz, along with an underrated defence, all the way to a 13-3 regular season finish, good enough for first-seed in the NFC. While they lost their superstar sophomore Wentz, Nick Foles stepped up and performed well enough to give the Eagles their first Super Bowl appearance since 2005.

This is extremely exciting for long-suffering Eagles fans, but it’s extremely nerve-racking for Philadelphia police that have the responsibility of keeping fans at least somewhat contained.

One safety measure they took during the NFC Championship game was to lather their street poles with Crisco oil to prevent fans from climbing up them.

Unfortunately, the preventative measure didn’t work as well as expected. The Philly faithful managed to find their way up the poles and regarded the obstacle as a challenge rather than a deterrent.

Obviously the grease wasn’t going to work, so Philly police had to decide whether they just cut their losses and assume Eagles fans will find a way, or go the extra measure with a new idea – gear oil.

Apparently one of the main deterrents of this gear oil idea is that fans will be unable to clean themselves very easily, and their clothes will almost definitely be ruined. Even though the oil is extremely hard to clean, the police have decided to use it on their city streets anyway. Will Eagles fans hesitate to shimmy up the poles following an Eagles’ victory, or will they be willing to take the same extra mile in celebrating?

Likely the latter.
