Sidney Crosby became the 86th player in NHL history to record 1,000 career points when he assisted on a goal by Chris Kunitz against the Winnipeg Jets last Thursday night. That game happened to take place in Pittsburgh, so it made the moment that much better.
The team hit the road later that night for a date against the Blue Jackets in Columbus on Friday night. On Sunday, the Penguins were back at home for the first time since Crosby’s historic night, and they wanted to make sure they celebrated his accomplishment the proper way.
Ahead of the game, Crosby received the first of many gifts from the team, as teammate Evgeni Malkin presented him with a beautiful gold-plated hockey stick in the team’s dressing room.
That wasn’t his only surprise, though. The team put together an awesome tribute video for their captain, and fellow Penguins legend and team co-owner and chairman Mario Lemieux presented Sid with an incredible plaque made out of the roof of the old Civic Arena, Crosby’s home for his first five seasons.
Congratulations on an incredible career so far, Sid. We know there’s plenty more where that came from.
