Noah Syndergaard has been one of the best pitchers in all of baseball since he made the jump to the big leagues back in 2015, but the 26-year-old got off to the shakiest start of his career this season.
In five starts in April the man known as βThorβ posted a 6.43 ERA and 1-3 record, and only made it past the fifth inning in two of his starts. However, Syndergaard turned things around in a massive way on Thursday afternoon by getting the job done on both sides of the plate.
In the bottom of the third inning, Syndergaard opened the scoring by blasting his second home run of the season to give the Mets a 1-0 lead. After giving himself some run support, he went to work on the mound by striking out 10 batters and giving up just four hits and one walk in a complete game shutout victory.
Not only did Syndergaard put up his best performance of the season, but he did it in historic fashion as he became the first person since 1983 and just the sixth all-time to toss a 1-0 shutout victory via his own home run.
