After a heart-breaking Game 7 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins, Ottawa Senators goaltender Craig Anderson was still able to end his season on a high note.
Anderson and his wife Nicholle revealed in October that the latter had been diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal Cancer, a rare disease which can be found in the head and neck areas. Craig took time away from hockey to be with his wife as her battle progressed, before ultimately returning to the crease in February. In his first game back, the American shutout the New York Islanders 3-0.
Following his last game of the 2017 Stanley Cup playoffs, Nicholle informed Craig that her scans had come back clean.
A truly remarkable way to end a magical run for the Senators. Nicholle capped off the year by expressing how proud she was of her husband and teammates in an emotional tweet following the game.
Congratulations to Nicholle and Craig on the great news!
