Being a professional athlete in today’s day and age, a lot of your preparation for the game comes off the ice.
Of course, there is dryland training, weight training and a lot of other fitness-based pre-game routines, but it’s reached the point where even their diet can affect whether or not they will reach the peak of their game. So, cooking can be important, but athletes aren’t always cooking for themselves.
The NHL just posted a video with stars from around the league and asked them about the best meals they can cook and the answers vary quite a bit (Thanks to Matthew Coe for sending this through).
So to recap, here are all of their best meals:
Jeff Skinner – Pasta
Tanner Pearson – Pasta
Jonathan Huberdeau – Lasagna
Nathan MacKinnon – Steak
Jonathan Drouin – Steak and Sweet Potatoes
Jamie Benn – Caesar Salad and Salmon
Jack Eichel – Salmon
Taylor Hall – Salmon and Gluten-Free Pasta
Erik Karlsson – Scrambled Eggs (And they’re damn good)
Tuukka Rask – Sweet Potato Gnocchi with Spicy Sausage, Bacon and Asparagus
Jordan Eberle – Steak
Chris Tanev – Steak
Seth Jones – Pork Chops and Potatoes
Martin Jones – Steak and Mashed Potatoes
Roman Josi – Chicken on the Bone with Salad and Vegtables
Connor McDavid – Nothing
Ryan McDonagh – Pancakes and Eggs
Marc-Andre Fleury – Crepes
Tyler Seguin – Grilled Cheese
If we were to choose a rating system it would have to go from Connor McDavid, who shows no interest in cooking, to Tuukka Rask, who is actually getting pretty sophisticated. Still, that sounds like a pretty mean grilled cheese from Tyler Seguin.
