Nazem Kadri is a player that plays on the edge and that can be a dangerous game.
Last night with the Leafs already done 4-1 to the Bruins, Kadri took a five-minute major and game misconduct for his hit on Tommy Wingels. Wingels had dropped to his knees after laying a high hit on Mitch Marner. Kadri came in shortly after and delivered a hit that caught the back of Wingels head and hit it against the boards.
The play earned him a hearing with the Department of Player Safety today and we have a feeling we may know what Kadri will tell them. He already tried to defend the hit last night:
He’s not wrong in saying that if Wingels is standing up there’s nothing wrong with the hit, but that doesn’t really excuse the play. The dangerous part really is that Wingels is in a vulnerable position and ideally Kadri would have slowed up when seeing that.
It’s easy to dissect this plays in slow motion afterword, but we’re still pretty sure his defense isn’t going to help him much today. Craig Button and the fans definitely don’t think it will.
