On this day in sports history, Morris Peterson hit one of the least likely buzzer-beaters you’ll ever see in basketball.

Trailing by three points after a pair of Washington Wizards free throws with just seconds left in the game, the Raptors’ attempt to get the ball up the court was picked off by Michael Ruffin... who, for some reason, decided to just throw the ball straight up in the air.

It would’ve been all fine if time expired! But the ball came back down into Mo Pete’s hands with under a second left, and his desperation heave was able to force overtime, where the Raptors would eventually win it.

This might be the highlight of Peterson’s career, and it was certainly a standout moment from that era of the franchise which wasn’t always so glamorous.

We can thank Michael Ruffin for that.
