From October 15th to December 2nd, every NHL team will hold a special Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night.

The special night brings together fans, players, team personnel, broadcasters, alumni and various partners together to raise funds and awareness regarding for the biggest fight of all. Cancer patients and their families are supported by the hockey community in hopes of inspiring hope and prosperity to battle through the horrible disease.

On Tuesday night, the Minnesota Wild celebrated their Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers.

Like all teams, the Wild wore a special lavender jersey that will be auctioned off to the Minnesota Wild Foundation. Special decals were rocked on helmets, and some players sported a lavender coloured tape on their blades and socks., while coaches and broadcasters donned a commemorative pins and ties.

The Wild went the above and beyond, inviting six children that have been affected by cancer for a photoshoot with the team. The kids were suited up in regular player equipment and goalie gear, along with their own custom jerseys in an incredibly well produced and emotional video.

Major props to the Wild for thinking of this. What an terrific experience for the six kids in what will be one of the coolest things you’ll see today. It’s pretty awesome that they were able to keep those custom prints outs of themselves that will surely make them never forget that special day.

In what has surely been an extremely difficult battle for those six kids, it’s great to see how the sport of hockey can bring such elation in what had surely been a tough upbringing.
