The Toronto Maple Leafs have by all counts had a successful season so far. Still, if there was any area of improvement to point to, it would be on defense.

There’s no reason to think it won’t happen eventually, based on the team’s trajectory, and if it does, it will make for the best Leafs team in a long time. They currently surrender the third most shot attempts per game in the league, so it would help quite a bit. It would truly be a fairy-tale ending for a Leafs fan base that has suffered for 50 years this season.

After the latest Leafs loss – their sixth in their last eight games – in which they gave up three goals in the first period, that tall tale inspired our latest BarDown Toonz comic from artist PenGellyInk.

Perhaps they just need some help from hockey dad Tom Brady or one of the 100 greatest players of all time. Either way, we’re sure Leafs fans hope this story will become a reality soon enough.

For now, Frederik Anderson’s parents will have a tough time as the parent of a goalie on the Leafs.
