Connor McDavid arguably conducted the strongest performance of the season last night during Edmonton’s convincing 6-2 win over the Tamp Bay Lightning. The captain recorded four goals, with his second coming from what appeared to be an impossible angle near the net. To make matters worse for the Lightning, he managed to add an assist to finish the evening with five points.

One of the more quiet but significant parts of McDavid’s evening was revealed after the game. By reaching 20 goals and 60 points, the Newmarket native earned $425,000. He had previously earned $425,000 for accumulating 35 assists and appearing in the NHL’s All-Star game.
The kid is 21 and has already earned 2,550,000 in Schedule A performance bonuses. Not to mention he became the league’s highest paid player after signing an 8-year contract extension that will pay him $12.5 million annually. Oh- and this is all excluding the endorsement deals. Must be nice to be Mr. McDavid!
Through it all, the former Erie Otter has remained humble and displayed an undeniable focus on becoming the best player he can be. Still, anyone can appreciate making an extra $425,000, especially when it’s earned in one performance. This is just another one of many bonus checks McDavid will likely receive throughout his career.
