McDavid will join Gretzky as the only players to accomplish an incredible NHL milestone

Edmonton Oilers superstar Connor McDavid just keeps adding to his illustrious resume.

The 2015 first overall pick is averaging more than a point per game through 209 career contests and already has an Art Ross and Hart Trophy under his belt. After tomorrow night, he will join an exclusive club that only features former Oilers legend Wayne Gretzky.

With NHL action essentially wrapped up, McDavid’s two assists tonight kept him at the league lead with 108 points. Barring an unthinkable performance by a Boston Bruins or Florida Panthers player tomorrow night, he will join Gretzky as the only players in NHL history to win multiple Art Ross trophies at 21 years or younger.

McDavid’s trailers included Claude Giroux (102), Nikita Kucherov (102), Evgeni Malkin (98) and Nathan MacKinnon (95). What is perhaps most impressive about McDavid’s accomplishment is that he managed to capture this year’s trophy on a relatively weak Oilers roster. Edmonton ranked 21^st in goals for despite McDavid’s numbers. The next leading scorer on the roster was Leon Draisaitl with just 69.

The Hart Trophy is typically awarded to a player who helped his team make it to mid-April hockey, but It will be interesting to see if and how many MVP votes he receives ahead of the NHL’s award show.
