On Tuesday, Eagles wide receiver Marquise Goodwin becomes one of several NFL players to announce that he has opted out of this season because of concerns surrounding COVID-19.
On Wednesday, he received a ton of messages from fans unhappy about his decision.
The New York Times published that as of Wednesday, there were over 4.4 million confirmed cases of coronavirus in the U.S. with more than 150,000 deaths.
Goodwin says his family is the utmost priority for him right now as he and his wife had a baby girl in February, after many complications, but does reassure that it is only for this season.
He goes into detail in this Instagram post about experiencing multiple miscarriages with his wife, Morgan, while putting football first.
Since then he has been flooded with positive fans who understand and support his decision to take care of his family.
Opting out means he will either qualify for a $350,000 stipend or a $150,000 cash advance (voluntary).
