Mark Scheifele was well on pace to having a career year last season before his campaign was cut short due to a knee injury. However, he still had quite the year as he totaled 23 goals and 37 assists for 60 points in 60 games.
The 25-year-old joined TSN 1050’s OverDrive on Tuesday afternoon, where he talked about the Winnipeg Jets’ incredible run last season, his recent performance at the PGA Tour event in Winnipeg, but most importantly he gave his thoughts on who he believes are the top players in the league right now and the hardest to play against.
Steve Simmons: Bryan and I are both on the list of people who have to vote for the Top 50 players with TSN as they come out with the show sometime in the fall. If you’re picking a top five of players in the NHL who impress you the most, who are they?
Mark Scheifele: Definitely Connor McDavid and Sidney Crosby are one and two. I would say Victory Hedman or Roman Josi in the top five, one of them. I’d throw my linemate Blake Wheeler in the top five, he’s one of the most underrated players. His passing is next level by far, he’s a pretty special player to play with. Number five I’d probably put Jamie Benn. He’s a really player who does it all and is tough to play against. He hits and skates well, shoots the puck, does it all close to the net, he does it all really well and is definitely up there.
Everyone is going to have their own opinion on who they believe are the top or most impressive players in the league, but just about everyone who does put their rankings together are missing something that Scheifele has, which is actual experience against the players he’s ranking.
