What’s going on in Vegas is truly special. The expansion team continues to shatter expectations, and now they sit two win away from a Stanley Cup Final berth in their inaugural season. That is thanks in large part to their trustee goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury.
While Fleury may not be up for the Vezina Trophy this season, he is chasing what could possibly be a Conn Smythe Trophy if the Golden Knights are able to pull off the unthinkable. His stellar post-season has earned the love and respect of teammates, opponents, and fans. On top of that, he is just simply one of the most likable people on earth.
Following Vegas’ 4-2 Game 3 victory over the Winnipeg Jets, Fleury took the time out of his celebrations to address something more important. Before his pads were even off, Fleury was hanging out with Carson and Jackson Haugan – the sons of Humboldt Broncos head coach and GM Darcy Haugan.
The team surprised the Haugan family with tickets to Game 3, which is the latest effort in what has been a full hockey community coming together. It’s not often that you see a cause totally take over priority number one across an entire league, but when it came to the tragic Humboldt bus crash there was never another way.
Fleury continues to raise the bar on what it means to be a hockey player beyond his play in net.
