The Edmonton Oilers selected Leon Draisaitl with the third overall pick in the2014 NHL Entry Draft and he’s turned into the player they expected him to become over the past couple of seasons.

With the start of the 2018-19 NHL season right around the corner, the 22-year-old made a very big announcement as he’ll be teaming up with the Oilers Foundation to make some massive donations in support of WE Movement in Alberta and Hockey Helps Kids over the next eight years.

Draisaitl has pledged to donate $150,000 annually to local charities and his donation will be matched at 50% by the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, for a total donation of $225,000.

The Oilers forward got a first-hand experience of the impact of education in students last year when he helped out at an event at D.S. MacKenzie School through Hockey Helps Kids.

"I think as a player coming to this city and making it my home for most of the year, I find it very important to find a connection," Draisaitl said. "I want to be part of building something in this city, and I'm very excited for this chance and look forward to starting."

WE Day Alberta will take place at Rogers Place in Edmonton for the very first time on October 12, and there will be a lot of kids in attendance who will feel the impact from Draisaitl’s donation.
