After blowing a 21-point lead to the lowly Orlando Magic a night before, LeBron James knew he had to take control of the situation by bringing his A game in the second half of a back-to-back.
LeBron and the Cavs faced a pesky T-Wolves club on Wednesday night and needed overtime to defeat Minnesota 140-138. With the game tied at 138, T-Wolves forward Jimmy Butler appeared to have the game winning shot in the bucket with just four seconds left in OT.
Needing their best player to rise to the occasion, King James went up for the first and only block of the game, and boy what a block it was.
The Cavs regained possession of the ball and called a timeout.
With one second left on the clock, the Cavs’ Jeff Gren inbounded the ball right to the King with a fantastic pass, and James finished the game off in style by spinning, shooting and draining the shot to sink the T-Wolves.
Cleveland is 5-5 in their last ten games, with many pundits wondering if they’ll be able to put it all together prior to the postseason. We won’t know if this will be a turning point in the Cavs season, but there’s no denying the importance of LeBron stepping up and leading the struggling team to victory.
If the Cavs do manage to get their act together, then that shot has all the makeup to be the TSN turning point of their season. James also managed to become the Cavs all-time leader in rebounds. He’s only the third player in NBA history to hold franchise records in points, rebounds and assists.
The internet reacted how you’d expect the internet to react following the late game heroics, or the “walk-off homer” as Lebron described it as.
