Kyle Dubas is already making a strong impression just weeks after being named the new general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Dubas been doing his due diligence for this June’s Draft and has made a point of getting to know some of the prospects on a more personal level. One of the players included USHL forward Jack Drury, who had nothing but glowing reviews about the 32-year-old. He went on to say he was “on point” and “one of the smarter men I met this week.”
This can only be encouraging news for Leafs fans, who understand the intelligence and patience that is required to run a hockey team in Toronto. The compliments shouldn’t come as a surprise, though, considering this is a process Dubas is all-too familiar with at this point. Before his recent promotion, the Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario native served as the Leafs’ assistant GM for four seasons and as the Toronto Marlies’ GM during that stretch. These types of interviews are nothing new.
Dubas’ high hockey IQ is no secret, but it’s nice to see players are publically pointing it out. It's going to be an interesting year in Toronto.
