The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired Jack Campbell to back up Frederik Andersen, but itβs going to be hard to hand the starting job back to Andersen when heβs ready to go based on the way Campbellβs been performing.
After setting the Maple Leafs franchise record earlier this week for longest win streak by a goalie, Campbell was at it again on Saturday as he set the NHL record as the first goalie in league history to start a season 11-0.
It might sound a little confusing to some since weβre a lot closer to the playoffs than we are to the start of the season, but because Campbell missed time with an injury his season was put on hold and he came back and picked up where he left off.
Winning 11 straight games at any point in the season is impressive, but to come out of the gates that hot, get hit with an unexpected break, and then come right back and pick up where you left off is extremely impressive.
Campbell also tied his own personal record for wins in a season with 11, which he set last season by winning 8 with the Los Angeles Kings and three with the Leafs. As a member of the Maple Leafs, Campbell has only lost two games in regulation and three as a whole, and Saturday night was his 17th start with the club.
