The St. Louis Blues joined the NHL ahead of the 1967-68 season and made three straight appearances in the Stanley Cup from 1967-1970. But they were never able to take home hockey’s most prized possession and have failed to make it back to the final stage all these years.
However, that all changed on Tuesday night as the Blues booked their ticket to the big dance for the first time in 49 years and fans are ecstatic.
The Blues looked like they would be in contention for the first overall pick during the first half of the season, but they managed to turn things around just in time and dominated down the stretch to clinch a spot in the playoffs. Now, they’re heading to the Stanley Cup Final where they’ll meet the Boston Bruins.
It’s pretty shocking that the Blues have not made an appearance in the Stanley Cup Final in nearly 50 years, especially since they know a thing or two about making the playoffs every single year. It’s also pretty shocking that this team was sitting in last place at one point this season and now they’re four wins away from capturing the franchise’s first Stanley Cup title.
It should be a great battle!
