Just a year ago, the basketball world couldn’t get enough news about the blockbuster trade that sent Kyrie Irving to Boston in a package based around Isaiah Thomas.
A lot has happened since that deal went down: Irving was injured and subsequently needed knee surgery and screws inserted into it; Thomas was traded to Los Angeles because he didn’t fit in with the Cavs whatsoever, and eventually signed a veteran minimum contract with the Denver Nuggets. Irving’s new club made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Final where they lost in seven games to the Cavs without Irving’s services.
With Irving having some free time on his hands, he was able to celebrate the release of his movie, Uncle Drew, where he impersonates an old basketball legend that makes his return to the court where dominates a pick-up game of basketball at the popular Rucker Classic streetball tournament.
On top of his new movie being released, Irving is also gearing up for the release of a new ‘cereal’ pack of his signature Kyrie shoes. Remember when you would get an assorted pack of different types of cereals when you were a kid? (Hey, if you still buy ‘em, there’s nothing wrong with that at all).
Well, Kyrie is making three custom shoes that will be based around Kix, Lucky Charms and Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and they come equipped with the cereal’s logos and custom colours.
Check ‘em out.
Don't you just want to eat them? Rubber soles never tasted so good.
The shoes will be released on August 11 for $120 a pair through the Snkrs app. Pop up shops in California are already selling them, so if you’re a sneakerhead, you might want to grab yourself a set.
Who knows, maybe Kyrie and the Celtics will have some good luck come their way this season after the team was absent of Irving and Gordon Hayward for their playoff stretch. Celtics fans have to be liking their luck heading into the seasons with one of the best young cores in the entire NBA lead by the cereal connoisseur himself.
