Around this time two years ago, Harry Maguire and a group of his friends cheered England on as fans at the 2016 UEFA European Championship. Now, on Monday, he’s a part of the team for England as they took the pitch against Tunisia at the World Cup.
“I’m sure they think it’s as surreal as what it is to me when I first found out. It’s a great occasion for myself. They’ll go there as big fans and supporting myself as well,” said Maguire.
It’s been a remarkable rise for Maguire, who, in 2016, played on the fringes of the Premier League with Hull City. Since signing with Leicester City last year, however, the 25-year-old defender has blossomed in impressive and quite unexpected fashion.
So, never say never when you and your buddies are at a game; one of you may yet make the show one day. For Harry Maguire, that dream turned to reality.
