English soccer fans have been waiting a very long time to see their nation have success at the World Cup – 52 years to be exact - but both the players and the fans have felt extremely confident in this year’s squad since the start of the tournament.
Considering England was bounced in the group stage at the 2014 World Cup and in the quarter-finals in the 2010 World Cup, their most recent Round of 16 matchup against Colombia was a massive one for the entire country. On Tuesday, BBC news journalist Felicity Baker captured the perfect photo that sums up just how big of a deal this tournament is to soccer fans, especially those in England.
We’ve seen plenty of videos of massive crowds watching and celebrating together throughout the World Cup, but we haven’t seen anything like this before as Baker caught a large group of people leaving Wimbledon post up outside someone’s house to watch the remainder of the game through the window.
England will go head-to-head with Sweden in the quarter-finals, which will take place on Saturday.
