Emotions were running very, very high during Game 4 between the St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars on Wednesday night.
St. Louis had a chance to return home with a 3-1 lead but things went from bad to worse quickly. Before the second period ended, the Blues found themselves down 4-1 and tempers consequently rose on their end, particularly from goaltender Jordan Binnington. The 25-year-old lost his cool after the final horn sounded in the second period and proceeded to punch Stars captain Jamie Benn in the head after tapping him with his stick.
Benn was just the first of Binnington’s two victims. After catching Benn with his blocker, he gave Benn a slash as he skated off the ice. Binnington was awarded penalties for both plays and eventually finished the game with 27 saves on 31 shots.
He had this to say after the game:
With the loss, the series becomes a best two-of-three series with St. Louis owning home ice advantage. He’ll have tonight to cool down before the two teams meet for Game 5 on Friday night.
