Jordan Binnington was a loose cannon during Wednesday night’s affair between the St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars.
For starters, he registered just 27 shots on 31 saves for a measly .871 save percentage en route to the Blues dropping their first road loss of the postseason. But it was his actions outside of his crease that managed to catch the hockey world’s attention for all the wrong reasons.
We understand that getting in an opponent’s head is part of the game, however, the 25-year-old took things way too far while trying to agitate Stars goaltender Ben Bishop. If you take a close look, you’ll be able to see Binnington take a vicious swing with his stick at Bishop while his back is turned to him. It’s hardly believable.
Hockey fans shouldn’t necessarily be surprised by Binnington’s actions. Ironically enough, he delivered a brutal jab to Texas Stars forward Joel L’Espereance this past November that led to his ejection from the game. He didn’t get tossed this time around, but was awarded a slashing penalty.
Incredibly, Binnington’s slash may not have even been his dirtiest play from the evening. He also made sure to deliver a serious punch to Stars captain Jamie Benn’s dome and was awarded another 2 for roughing. Two different penalties in a game by a goalie?
Yeah. doesn’t happen too often.
But hey, stuff happens…
This series is starting to get very, very interesting.
