Johnny Manziel’s time with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats came to an end on Sunday after the team dealt the quarterback, along with offensive linemen Tony Washington and Landon Rice, to the Montreal Alouettes in a blockbuster deal that sent defensive end Jamaal Westerman, receiver Chris Williams and two first-round picks back the other way.
The Als didn’t waste much time introducing the newest member of the team as Manziel met with the media on Monday evening. During the press conference, the 25-year-old talked about how much of an impact Alouettes head coach Mike Sherman made on him while he was the head coach at Texas A&M and mentioned how he’s excited to be playing for him once again.
A lot of people assumed that Manziel had asked for a trade out of Hamilton due to the lack of playing time, but that was just one of the many rumours he cleared up during Monday’s introductory press conference as he made it clear he never asked for a trade from the Ticats.
Manziel just happened to land in the wrong place at the wrong time as Jeremiah Masoli hasn’t given the Tiger-Cats any real reason to replace him as the team’s starting quarterback, but now he’ll get a fresh start in a new place alongside some familiar faces.
