The Toronto Maple Leafs are fresh off a brand new devastating playoff ousting after falling in Game 7 to the Montreal Canadiens. You could point to a number of reasons as to why the Leafs were unable to close out the series, but one of the main factors working against them was injuries.

No injury was more devastating to the Leafs than team captain John Tavares going down halfway through the 1st period of Game 1.

Tavares took an incidental Corey Perry knee to the head, leaving him in trouble on the ice. He was eventually taken off the ice on a stretcher, and transported to hospital in an ambulance.

On Wednesday, Tavares broke his silence on the injury. He explained to the media that he had not watched the play, but that he didn’t believe there was any intent on the part of Perry.

Tavares also discussed what the hit was like for him in real time, explaining that he didn’t remember the hit and pieces of what happened afterwards.

Tavares began his media availability by talking about his progress, which he believes has been very positive.

Great to hear he’s doing better, and we’re hoping he can get back to 100% as quickly as possible.
